MEET OUR PANELISTS
Jancyn I Appel
Jancyn Appel has grown up in the Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah community where she had her baby naming, bat mitzvah, and confirmation. She’s a Kansas City native, graduating from Pembroke Hill in 2019. At Pembroke, she served as student body president, captain of the volleyball team, a national quarterfinalist in United States Extemporaneous Speaking, and was voted Best All-Around Varsity Competitor by her team. She has served the Kansas City community through chairing multiple political engagement events from voter registration drives to protests and even served as Youth Governor of Missouri in her senior year. She now attends Carleton College located in beautiful Northfield, Minnesota where she continues her academic and athletic career. As a rising sophomore at Carleton, she works for the college president, serves on student senate, works for the admissions department as a tour guide, coaches the men’s volleyball team, and participates in varsity volleyball. She plans to attend law school after college, and while she does not know which law school that may be, she’s fairly certain it will not be back in Kansas.
Damion Brown
Damion known to all as “Coach D” has worked with athletes of all ages from Kindergarten to College in the areas of total skill development: performance and strength training, specific sport skill training (football/basketball), and mental strength training (mamba mentality). He is a sports entrepreneur, and is also the current Varsity Boys Coach at Hyman Brand.
“The hardest skill to acquire in any sport, is the only where you compete all out, give it all you have, and you are still getting beat no matter what you do. When you have the killer instincts to fight through that; you have truly gained something very special that will usher you to everything you could ever desire”.
Tyler Johnson
Tyler is a rising junior, entering his tenth year at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. At school, he’s a member of National Honor Society, a member of student council, a section editor for yearbook, and assistant editor of the school newspaper. Outside of school, he’s a member of the Coterie Theatre’s Young Playwrights Roundtable.
