Congregation and JFS Food Pantry Collections

Help Stock the JFS Food Pantry During Community Food Drives July 8 & 18

While the pandemic is easing, there are still more than 775 families in our community who count on the Jewish Family Services each month for food, household and personal care items – even pet food.

With two locations of its food pantry – one in Brookside East and the other at the Jewish Community Campus in Overland Park – JFS needs donations from the community to help keep its shelves stocked. About 50 percent of the items in the pantry come from donated products many received during food drives.

During July, JFS is asking the public to donate canned main dishes, such as Spaghettios or ravioli, deodorant and shampoo. Packages of toilet paper can also be donated as part of JFS’ summer “WipeOut” effort. The pantry distributes 2,700 rolls of tp each month -that’s a lot of toilet paper!

July Community Food Drives:

  • 4 – 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 8, at JFS Food Pantry in Brookside, 425 E. 63rd, Kansas City. Donors are instructed to pull into a designated parking space on the west side of the building and call the number listed; a volunteer will pick up items directly from cars.
  • 10 a.m. to noon, Sunday, July 18 at the Jewish Community Campus, 5801 W 115th, Overland Park. Drop off will be in the front circle drive where JFS volunteers and staff will take items directly from cars.

If you miss the opportunity to donate during the Community Food Drives, donations can be dropped off in the JFS barrel in the lobby of the Jewish Community Campus during business hours or at the Brookside office with appointment by calling (816) 333-1172. Donors may also purchase through the JFS Pantry Wish List on Amazon or make a financial contribution to the pantry at jfskc.org.

Individuals and organizations are also needed to host Summer “WipeOut” toilet paper drives. JFS has all the tools needed to help make your drive a success.  For more information,  email fooddrive@jfskc.org.

Often the pantry is the entry point for individuals to benefit from one or more additional services the JFS provides such as social services, mental health counseling or older adult services.

JFS provides other essential human services for people facing challenges in everyday life or times of crisis-regardless of faith, age, culture or lifestyle. For more information, visit jfskc.org.
