Mark your calendar and save the date for this year’s annual “Day of Discovery – Explore the Joy of Jewish Learning in Kansas City” scheduled for Sunday, August 22, 9:30– 3:00 p.m. The program will be held virtually via zoom.

Participants will have an opportunity to learn, study, and discover some of the community’s finest Jewish educators, rabbis, and cantors, who will lead sessions on a wide range of topics.  Nearly thirty classes will be offered throughout the day including a special lunch and learn session with the co-hosts of the popular radio show,” Religion on the Line.”

Registration for the event will begin in early August.  Watch your mail and check the Rabbinical Association website kcrabbi.org the end of July for information about how to register and where to view the online listing of classes and details related to the day.  Space is limited and advance registration is required.

Planning for the Day of Discovery began eight months ago and includes a task force with professional and lay representatives from congregations and partnering agencies. “It is a delight to work with this remarkable group of dedicated and committed individuals who work tirelessly over the summer to make this event possible,” commented Annette Fish, Administrator/Program Director of the Rabbinical Association.

Task force members include Mari Anne Birnbaum, Lainie Decker, Annette Fish, Joel Fish, Elliott Franks, Marti Fry, Joyce Fulps, Ben Gaddert, Henri Gaddert, Dayna Gershon, Clint Gillom, Cristi Gillom, Jody Gittleman, Lauren Gladish, Henri Goettel, Molly Hess, Linda Hyken, Marian Kaplan, Simon Kass, Sam Matier, Pat McKenna, Vicki Mooney, Peter Pizor, Teri Smith, Frank Tankard and Felicia Weiner.


Day of Discovery 2017We host the Day of Discovery event each year, held in late August. It’s a unique opportunity for the JEWISH COMMUNITY to discover the richness and the diversity of Jewish learning available in Kansas City. Participants learn, study and “discover” some of the community’s finest Jewish educators, rabbis and cantors, who lead sessions on a wide range of topics. Over thirty classes are offered throughout the day.

While the schedule varies each year, registration and a continental breakfast usually take place from 8:45 – 9:30 a.m., study sessions begin at 9:30 and lunch is served from 12:15 –1:20 p.m. A dessert reception with door prizes will conclude the day. Registration for the event begins in early August. Registration forms are mailed in advance in July. A listing of classes and information related to the day can be found towards the end of July or in mid-August.

Space is limited and advance registration is required. Class and lunch payments must be received in advance; after the deadline, registration fees increase and enrollment is open on a space-available basis.
